I love this post! It's always offensive when people say stuff like that when it is Substack! You can post whatever you want at all! And I support you <3

Just subscribed! I can’t remember how many of your strips I cut out of the LA Times. I pasted them in a journal to read when I needed a funny laugh and a wonderful thought.

Hi Margreet! I appreciate and totally get your sentiment. Here’s my worry- the newsletter is infrequent, and if I did a Patreon I would need to do more for readers to make it worth their while. Is that your experience with people you’ve supported? Really wrestling to figure this out!

I love this bit of queer cartoonists history! As for supporting: I personally would rather pay money directly to an artist here on Substack or on Patreon, than through a subscription of which a syndicate takes half.

Margreet De Heer - Agreed. And Hilary B. Price, I don't think you'd have to do any more work/content to deserve that. As for Komics Kingdom, I can appreciate the gesture - a bit. I could appreciate it a little more if it didn't sound so condescending, and seem like too little, too late :-( But - I'm old!!! and wish newspapers would live forever!! and with 6 pages of comics....

Hi Pat- I wish they lived forever, too! I feel so mixed! Most of all, I want people to see the work. (And of course, make sure Rina and I can still afford to make the work.) With Comics Kingdom doing the tech part, is it that different than the 50% gallery fee the art gallery takes? At the same time, I can see that I'm defending the "old ways!"

Hi Hilary - with a few clicks you can add a paid option to your newsletter here in Substack. As Pat said, you wouldn't have to make anything new, just post one or two of your old comics a week and I'd be a happy customer. I would happily pay 5 dollars a month for that, and I'm sure lots of others would too!

I get your newsletter so you have my email address. Quietly send me your snail mail address or some other means of reaching you and will send you $50 that you will not have to split with anyone.
